The myth of women as dance teachers - A woman (follower) as a dance teacher has nothing to pass on to leaders. Really?
The myth of women as dance teachers
Some kind of delusion has spread here.
A woman (follower) as a dance teacher has nothing to pass on to leaders. It is strange that the same people who see it this way, usually do not see it that way from the other side. Because no one says that a man doesn't have something to pass on to followers.
Should women then only train with women and men only with men?
When I was dancing ballroom dances, I never experienced anyone thinking that a woman as a teacher has nothing to pass on to leader. Just the opposite. A woman can give you a completely different perspective on your dancing and leading. One of the reasons is that she is a follower and knows exactly what she needs from the leader in order to follow. Another reason is quite simple. A woman who teaches couple dance can also lead (often better than many men) because she actually practices leading. She knows the techniques of leading as well as the techniques of following. If someone teaches a couple dance, he/she should know both sides.
I still remember an individual lesson with the world-famous ballroom dance teacher Carol MacRaild from England. In this lesson, I received information from her that completely changed my view on leading some figures. Suddenly, many things became easier for me to dance.
I trained with several female teachers such as Janette Fáberová or Albina Hrstka Zaytseva and recently the great Rita Szabó or Liliana de Lima and several others and classes with them have always been just as beneficial for me as classes with men.
I am asking you leaders not to reject women as teachers with the impression that they have nothing to pass on to us leaders.
Couple dancing is about two people and both have something to say about it.
